Kunjungan Presiden George W. Bush semalam sepatutnya menjadi lawatan terakhir ke Iraq sebelum meninggalkan White House bulan depan.

Beliau tidak menerima “cenderamata penghargaan” daripada rakyat Iraq, sebaliknya menerima balingan kasut ketika mengadakan sidang media bersama Perdana Menteri Iraq, Nouri al-Maliki.

Seorang wartawan Iraq melemparkan dua kasut terhadap Bush tetapi tidak menepati sasaran kerana beliau sempat mengelak balingan.

Kasut itu kemudian mengenai dinding belakang.

Nouri bagaimanapun cuba menyelamatkan Bush walapun balingan itu tidak mengena.

“Ini ciuman perpisahan untuk anda, anda anjing!” jerit wartawan berkenaan dalam bahasa Arab.

Dia kemudian dikenali sebagai Muntadar al-Zeidi iaitu koresponden bagi saluran televisyen Iraq, Al-Baghdadia yang berpangkalan di Kaherah, Mesir.

Kemudian Bush bergurau: “Ia (kasut) bersaiz 10.”

Kunjungan itu diadakan 37 hari sebelum Bush meninggalkan White House.

Bush akan digantikan Barack Obama pada 20 Januari ini.
